What is EveChatter?EveChatter is an open forum for all players of Eve Online. It is geared towards corporations and alliances with simple forum needs that don't want the headache and hassle of working with website hosts.
EveChatter will create your own boards for your corp and alliance. Corporation and Alliance leadership can easily add, modify, and remove the boards that are displayed. Here is an example screenshot:
What can EveChatter do for me?When you register your account, EveChatter will look at your EveOnline API and determine what accounts are members of Corp and Alliances. If EveChatter doesn't have a Category and Board setup for these corps and alliances, it will create them.
My Corporation board wasn't created, how come?EveChatter doesn't create boards for Corporations with less than 5 members.
How does EveChatter determine which toon name to pick?As your API is being validated, EveChatter looks to see which Character has the most skills trained. The character with the most trained skills is automatically chosen as your "main". Your corp ticker and name is then derived from that toon. If you'd like to override EveChatter's selection, click
here and select the toon of your choice.
Who can access my Corporation boards?Only members of the corporation! If they leave the corporation, they will lose access. If someone joins your corporation, they will gain access to your corporation's boards and lose access to their previous corporation's boards.
Who can access my Alliance boards?Only members of Corporations that are a member of the Alliance. And just like corporations, if the member leaves the alliance or the Corporation leaves the alliance, they will lose access. If a member joins a corp within the alliance or a Corporation joins the Alliance, then they will gain access.
What about a Public board? Does my corp/alliance get one?You certainly do get a public board. For members not in your corp or alliance that would like access to your public board, they have to add /t/ and then the ticker of your corp or alliance. Example:
http://evechatter.com/t/--W--/the above example will take you to the Woopatang Public board.
I want to make threads sticky, lock them, or even delete them. Can I moderate my boards? The CEO and directors of a corp will have moderation access of their Corporation board. For Alliances, the executor corp CEO and directors will have moderation access of their Alliance board.
I'm in a new corp now, but I can't see their boards yet. When will I see them?EveChatter goes through and revalidates a small set of account APIs on a schedule and it hasn't gotten to your account yet. Your account is validated roughly every 3 hours, the time is quite dependent on the speed of CCP's API servers.
Be patient and you will automatically be switched over soon.
Why does EveChatter require my API?EveChatter requires only the CharacterSheet from your Customized API Key, which can be obtained
here. EveChatter uses your API to determine certain things about your account such as Character name, Corporation, and Alliance.
What will EveChatter do with my API? How do I know you're not just harvesting API's?Trust is the most valuable commodity in Eve. The only thing EveChatter will do with your API is use it for the forum and no other purposes. I have no intent in violating the Eve community and the trust they provide in me.
